Getting into the Swing of Things

It's safe to say that the mister and I like to do things differently. I think it is due partly to the artist in both of us, and partly to our love for finding new ways for doing things. Breaking from the mold.

I'm not sure what first motivated me to search for a Rattan Egg Chair on Craigslist a while ago. I had searched before, here and there, but they were always out of our price range. Some upwards of a couple hundred dollars. Can you believe that? So, I gave up for a while. But, I recently saw a movie which filmed some beautiful Asian landscapes and villages. One part of the film featured the main characters swaying on these beautiful chairs out on a veranda overlooking perfectly manicured gardens and ponds. After being reminded of those chairs again, I decided to give it a go and search one more time.

Holy Moses! A Rattan Egg Chair in perfect condition, for 40 dollars, only a half an hour away! Woot! Of course, after informing the mister of yet another chair-type purchase, I was made to promise not to buy any more things to sit or swing on until his return home from Afghanistan.

I hid this marvel away in the shed until he came home to find the perfect spot for it. Everyone who saw it thought the patio would be just the ticket. But, I kept thinking in the back of my mind...Washington...cold and rainy most of the year...a darn waist of a really cool swing...
Of course, the mister was in like mind. So, in the spirit of doing something differently, and with an empty living room providing the perfect blank canvas, the swing found a home, nestled between two windows in the corner.

Already receiving an inordinate amount of attention from the girls, the swing is a lovely new addition to our wonky home.

  1. What a terrific place. But will it handle an adult - and I might add, not a petit one????

  4. Yes, it handles all God's creatures, great and small. Although, I think we should keep it under a ton. It is super sturdy and totally relaxing. Last time I was in it, I kept thinking, "This is why babies fall asleep rocking in mommy's arms." I was rocking myself and falling asleep at the same time. Ha!
