Inside Baby Update

I have always thought most baby ultrasound pictures more closely resemble Rorschach Tests than babies. But, a promise to my mother requires me to share this little inkblot with you. He is, after all, our little inkblot, and on second look, is rather smashing.

Twelve weeks down and counting. I still have a hard time wrapping my brain around the idea of a "family of five." We were so solidly four for so long, with no expectations of that changing. I am thrilled the Lord changed our hearts so exactingly, as only He can do.

It has been a wicked ride so far. Morning sickness and lack of appetite came on full force in the beginning and has finally started to abate. I feel like this was the worst of the three first-trimesters so far, but now that the light is near, it still doesn't seem like it was all that bad. In general, I have truly felt fortunate that I really enjoy most parts of pregnancy. It seems to always come down to food for me in the first few weeks:

1. Cravings: Cheese quesadillas dredged in hot sauce (like only my man can make), peppermint tea, plain wheat toast with a slice of tomato, Kashi Cinnamon Harvest Shredded Wheat, and salami.

2. Most revolting, nausea-inducing foods: Sugar in any form, coffee, garlic, homemade bread (especially the smell of the yeast), the smell of deep fried foods, and bananas.

We made one last trip to the farmers market this morning before the season ends here in Shreveport. My lack of desire to eat many veggies right now left me with a pretty sparse bag. I came home with some potatoes and a basket of tomatoes. The mister and the girls had a ball with fried fruit pies, Icees, and even managed to sneak some homemade fudge into the bag before we left.

I am ready for fall to hit, for food to taste good again, and for the baby bump to look like a baby bump and not an empty marsupial pouch. All in due time, Hickok. There's no stopping this train now!

  3. WOW. You are teeny. And I'm the third commenter on that note, huh? Annoying, sorry. Praying for you! Lemme know if you need any tips or whatev. And yes, that baby is smashing! And I'm so excited you are having another. The Hickoks have always felt like a lots-of-kids family to me. You guys are way too much creative fun for two small people to absorb. :)

    1. Well, I know it is probably strange for you all up there to see me this small. Total weightloss of 45 lbs since I started working on it a year and a half ago. This trimester I have lost 15lbs (not intentional) with all the sickness! I think I am done loosing, though. The belly is just starting to show up. :o) Thanks for the words of encouragement! You can call me teeny any stinkin time you want! Haha!

I really do think I am past the worst. I still don't like lots of foods, but I can at least eat enough to have energy!

  4. Wow, you look great! Now, that the sickness is done...maybe we should meet in Canton! : ) Your cravings sound much like mine...do you have Taco Bueno by you? I used to eat their tacos covered in salsa...AMAZING. And then, there was the Taco Bell bean burritos with all 4 pregnancies...yeah, they always brought a smile to my face! :)

Glad everyone is doing well...take care! xoxo
